Basics
NAME: Gilderoy Beauregard Eros Lockhart
AGE/BIRTHDAY: 24 / August 19, 1955
BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood
FORMER HOUSE: Ravenclaw, class of 1973
OCCUPATION: Gilderoy is an author, no wait. He's more than an author — he's a celebrity. His travels and deeds are known worldwide.

Relationships
FAMILY:
FATHER: Michael Lockhart
MOTHER: Nora Lockhart nee Lloyd
SIBLINGS: Hugh Lockhart, Irene Lockhart, and Jonathon Lockhart

PATERNAL GRANDFATHER: Merton Lockhart
PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER: Gail Lockhart nee Cook

MATERNAL GRANDFATHER: Peter Lloyd
MATERNAL GRANDMOTHER: Barbara Lloyd nee Webster

SEXUALITY: While Gilderoy considers himself to be heterosexual, he has been known to be intimate with men on occasion. He believes that it would be a crime to keep his beauty, tiger blood, and Adonis DNA from anyone who wishes to enjoy it.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Gilderoy Lockhart. He is in a serious relationship with himself, though, he quite frequently involves himself in casual hook-ups with attractive fans.
CHILDREN:: If he has any children, he does not know about them.

Politics
LOYALTY/ALLIANCE: Neutral/Journalist/Himself

ROLE IN THE WAR: To be quite honest, Gilderoy brings next to nothing to the table on the hunt for Horcruxes. He has limited magical skill, and the tendency to use the wrong spell at the wrong time. He cannot speak anything besides English, and he has very rarely travelled outside the United Kingdom. Also, his lazy nature leaves much to be desired, as he constantly delegates work, rather than actually working.

The only thing that he offers is his rather remarkable skill with memory charms, and even then he would be hesitant to use them, as it might draw suspicion to his professional achievements. Because, really? Who is going to believe that he drove away a banshee?

POLITICAL VIEWS: To be honest, Gilderoy doesn’t care much about blood purity or tradition, but he will never let on about it. He was born a Pureblood in a Muggle town, so many of his childhood friends were Muggles, another thing that he dares not to speak about. While he does understand the need for tradition in Pureblood society, he does not understand the need for bloodshed. His interest in blood purity, or lack there of, is purely based on his own selfishness and desire for self-perseverance. Gilderoy simply wants to remain marketable after the war, regardless of its outcome.

Gilderoy does not have a positive view of magical beings (vampires, hags, giants, etc.), something that is clearly evident in his books. He believes that he is superior to them in every way. He rather enjoys portraying beings for the monsters that they truly are.

Appearance
APPEARANCE: Gilderoy Lockhart looks like a gift from the Gods — or so he thinks. He takes great pride in his appearance and works hard to maintain it through several beautifying creams and potions. As a result, his pale skin is always flawless and blemish free. His golden, curly locks frame his beautiful face perfectly, and his brilliant white smile has been known to make grown women faint.

Lockhart stands at an even 6’0, and he maintains a healthy weight, mostly because he is very self-conscious about his frame. Merlin forbid he ever become overweight! He forces himself to eat only low-carb, low-fat, all-natural foods, and he exercises regularly to maintain a slim, yet athletic frame. To reward his dedication to his “health,” Gilderoy purchases fashionable silk robes and suits in an assortment of colors.

Personality
WAND: 14", elm and dragon heartstring, swishy
BOGGART: All of his fans realizing that he is a fraud.
PATRONUS: A pigeon. The happy memory that Gilderoy recalls while casting his patronus is the success he felt following his first book.

LIKES: Memory charms, himself, pretty girls, people who adore him, the color lilac, writing, reading, searching for new stories to steal, taking credit where it isn't deserved, being impeccably dressed, money, the power and social recognition that comes from money, being in the public eye, being famous and important
DISLIKES: When people aren't looking at him, lack of attention, poor people, people that refuse to read his novels, ugly girls that throw themselves at him, accidentally looking like an idiot when a charm backfires, blemishes, bad hair days

STRENGTHS: Memory charms, flying, writing, finding interesting stories to steal, deceiving and lying to people, taking credit for other people's accomplishments, looking fashionable
WEAKNESSES: General use of magic, potions, his love of feeling adored, any sort of test of his knowledge, anything that requires manual labor, hard work

KNOWN INFORMATION: Many people are aware that Gilderoy Lockhart is currently working on his follow-up book to Break with a Banshee. Most people are assuming that his new story will have something to do with the war because Gilderoy has publicized his departure from England so that he may join the hunt for Horcruxes.

DETAILED PERSONALITY: Gilderoy Lockhart is hot stuff, and he knows it. He knows that he is better than you, and why wouldn’t he be? He’s a celebrity, he’s part tiger, and part Greek god, after all. In the past two years he has driven away the Bandon Banshee, and he has written an award winning book about it. Oh, and let’s not forget that he was the most recent recipient of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award. Clearly, he is a very accomplished man, only he isn’t. Gilderoy Lockhart is a self-centered liar. Break with a Banshee was the story of an hairy-chinned Irish woman’s heroism that he stole, knowing that it would bring him into overwhelming success.

The truth about Lockhart is that he is a coward. He has never possessed an ounce of courage. More likely than not, Gilderoy will flee any scene of danger before he attempts to involve himself in something that might kill him. Perhaps his natural urge to flee comes from the fact that he has very little knowledge of magic, despite the fact that he studied at one of the most prestigious schools of magic in Europe. Most of the time, Gilderoy will use the wrong spell at the wrong time, thus causing some sort of disaster.

Gilderoy also is practically allergic to hard work. Though his parents both worked hard during his childhood and provided good examples of strong work ethic, he never quite learned that lesson. Lockhart believes that he is not only too good to work, but that he is too beautiful to work. In fact, he turned down a job as an Obliviator, a job that he was surprisingly good at, because he thought that he was working too hard. He believes that the easiest way of living is best, and he refuses to do anything that would disprove this statement.

Despite all of this, Gilderoy really isn’t a terrible person, he is just misdirected, and he does not have the social skills make conversation about anything other than himself. He is ambitious. He wants to be successful, but the only reason that he is so driven to succeed in life is to help his parents and his younger siblings. This ambition just makes his morals a little bit fuzzy.

History
CHILDHOOD: Though Gilderoy Lockhart likes to tell elaborate stories about the glorious day that he came into being, they are untrue. He was not born in the Serengeti among herds of zebras while his parents were on a safari, he was not born in the middle of the air as his parents attempted to circumnavigate the globe by broom, and he most certainly was not born while his mother was having a discussion with Her Royal Highness. Instead, Gilderoy was born in his family’s house in Kettering in a rather uneventful way.

Gilderoy came from rather humble beginnings. His father, Michael, earned a modest wage training security trolls for the Ministry, and his mother, Nora, worked as a nanny for more affluent, Pureblood families. Their combined wages allowed the family just enough money to put food on the table and to buy secondhand clothing for their children. Despite not having much, the family was happy, and they always had enough to survive.

Michael and Nora enrolled their children in Muggle Nursery and Primary schools at the appropriate ages. They desperately wanted their children to get a good education so that they would be able to make more out of their lives. They wanted their four little cherubs to become successful in the Wizarding World.

At first, Gilderoy seemed to enjoy school. He earned decent grades and he made quite a few friends. He enjoyed being around other children, and he was always a favorite of his teachers due to his charming personality. Unfortunately, as time passed, his grades declined. His focus was more on his friends than his academics.

HOGWARTS: During the summer of 1966, Gilderoy received his Hogwarts letter. He was incredibly excited to leave his family and start having adventures at Hogwarts. On the first of September, he boarded the Hogwarts Express, ready to truly experience magic for the first time, and he was, surprisingly enough, sorted into Ravenclaw house just hours later.

Before the year started, Michael and Nora used what little spare money they had to buy the expensive required texts and supplies that their son needed for school. At first, Gilderoy was very proud the robes and books that were new to him. His parents had worked hard to provide them for him, after all. However, he soon found himself feeling as though his robes and books were not good enough after the start of the term. Several of his classmates had new, never worn before robes that were tailor made to fit them. For the first time in his life, he was resentful that his parents could not provide the best things for him. For the first time in his life, he felt poor, and he vowed that he would make something out of himself so that he would never feel this way again.

Gilderoy found that he enjoyed his time at Hogwarts more than his time at Muggle school, and his grades reflected it, but just barely. Though he was a Ravenclaw, Gilderoy chose not to develop his intellectual ability. He would often chose to spend time with his friends instead of his books. He had more thirst for social acceptance than he did for knowledge, as a result, he was never anywhere near the top of his class. He was constantly falling behind in his studies, forgetting what ingredients went into what potions, or what certain spells were used for.

In his fourth year, Gilderoy finally began to care about his grades, though this was only because he had earned himself a spot on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team as a seeker. He was a fairly decent flier, and he was quite excited that he could try out for the National Squad if he practiced enough. Though, his infatuation with the sport did not last long after he took his first bludger. He quit the team shortly after because he was afraid that a bludger to the face would damage his good looks, and he returned to his old study habits.

At the end of his Hogwarts career, he had only earned himself four N.E.W.T.s, and he found himself hardly prepared to enter the real world.

POST-HOGWARTS: After leaving Hogwarts, Gilderoy decided that he would try his hand at becoming an Obliviator. He thought that it was a prestigious, well-paying job, and he wanted to have power. He embellished quite a few of his achievements on his application, but he was accepted into the training program. His time in the program lasted only a few months before he decided that he was not cut out for hard work. He was much too beautiful, and the stress the program brought did awful things to his skin.

Next, Gilderoy decided to try a career with the Daily Prophet because he thought that life as a journalist would be far less dangerous and far less work. He became freelance reporter for the paper. Gilderoy found that he was quite good at writing, and that it took very little effort to produce an article. For the most part his articles were successful, and he began to gain a fan base.

After spending five years with the Prophet, he started researching for an article about the Bandon Banshee. He travelled to Bandon, Ireland to research the happenings. Coincidentally enough, the Banshee was driven away while he was there. Initially, he planned to interview Siobhan O’Connor, the hairy-chinned witch that had driven the banshee away, and write a biography about her. However, after hearing her story, he decided that he would be propelled to fame if he were to take credit for Siobhan’s heroism. Lockhart obliviated Siobhan, erasing all of her memories concerning the Banshee.

Lockhart left the Prophet, and he began working on his “autobiographical” account of his heroic battle with the Banshee. He published Break with a Banshee a year later. The book was an instant best seller, and it propelled him into fame. Since then, he has decided to continue producing fraudulent autobiographies to maintain his status in the Wizarding World.

Just for fun
FIVE THINGS:

• Gilderoy Lockhart has an ego the size of Jupiter. He is so narcissistic that it is disturbing. It would be fun to play such a self-absorbed asshole.

• He makes a living off of stealing other people’s accomplishments, and the real reason that he is following everyone around is to try to claim their story as his own. The only thing is that he’s too concerned about his image and making sure that he isn’t recognized as a fraud. It would be interesting to see how Gilderoy balances his desire to claim everyone’s accomplishments as his own with his desire to maintain his reputation.

• Gilderoy was notorious for using the wrong spell at the wrong time in the books. This could lead to a slew of hilarious disaster shenanigans caused by Gilderoy in the game.

• Sure he's an arrogant asshole, but he is still human. I'd like to explore the more human aspects of Lockhart and explain why he is the way he is.

• WE NEED JOURNALISTS!

STRANDED: Your character is stranded on a deserted island. Which three items would your character would take with him/herself of personal value/ couldn't they couldn't live without and why?
A typewriter, an unlimited supply of parchment, and beautification potions
What one person would they pick to be stranded with?
One of his more attractive fans.
And alternatively, what would make this island their personal hell?
If he were stuck on the island with a fan that looked like a beached whale
